Chillington Hall, Codsall Wood - Soane Lantern
Description

A long term restoration strategy for this important building was started at the turn of the millennium.

The lantern above the Saloon was first identified as needing repair in 2004, but became urgent in 2007. The restoration project enabled other related improvements to be carried out aimed at restoring the saloon to its original Soane design.

Work included improving the lighting in the Saloon, and extending the colour scheme into the Front Hall to complement the Saloon. Also removal of a dado rail that had been added in Victorian times, and the restoration of the chimneypiece. Finally re-graining of the doors, shutters and skirtings, and gilding of the column capitals.

The prestigious Historic Houses Association and Sotheby's Restoration Award 2009 was awarded to the Chillington Hall Soane Lantern repair project.
