The new Laparoscopic Theatre at Birmingham Children’s Hospital has been created out of the existing theatre stores department.
The project involved a complicated sequence of construction and phased handovers resulting in new disposal and gas bottle stores and a complete new theatre store all of which were completed before work on the theatre itself could commence. The project set on the fourth floor and at the entrance to a large suite of theatres was extremely difficult logistically.
The completed theatre provides the latest laparoscopic facilities and includes provision for a Da Vinci robot system. Colour and lighting have been carefully used to provide both an enjoyable environment for the staff and a more child friendly environment for the children where appropriate.
