Developing a project for a timber retail outlet for the Duchy of Lancaster, the client requested the incorporation of a number of sustainable elements. These included Geo-thermal heating; timber structure and cladding from sustainable sources; recycled newspaper is utilized as wall and roof insulation; Sedum green roof (which stabilises internal temperatures, provides high water retention and slows rainwater run off and provides a natural habitat for wildlife); rainwater is re-cycled; sewage is treated on site via reed beds; large overhanging eaves to avoid solar gain.
