Project  Dovecote restoration
Client  Chillington Farm
Stage  Completed July 2010
Value   £125,000

In spite of ‘first-aid’ roof repairs over the years, these ranges reached the stage where they were included on English Heritage’s Register of Buildings at Risk. However, Natural England’s assistance under their HLS (Higher Level Stewardship) Scheme has begun a significant recovery in the life of these buildings. External repairs to the Stable Range began in 2007, leading to the most recent work to reinstate the dovecote roof and cupola, missing for over 15 years. The main focus of the grant is to ensure that these unique buildings are not lost, but are maintained for future generations. At present Natural England, through HLS, helps fund the Chillington Estate to arrange for school visits.
